A brilliant option for bringing year-round light and colour to shady corners, this variegated periwinkle offers excellent ground cover with a bright, modern twist.
Unlike the standard dark green varieties, this cultivar features striking leaves that are variegated with golden-yellow centres and deep green margins, creating a luminous carpet even on dull winter days. From mid-spring to early autumn, the foliage is studded with starry, violet-blue flowers that contrast beautifully with the gold-flushed leaves.
It is a tough, mat-forming evergreen that spreads by rooting along its stems, making it perfect for suppressing weeds on banks, under trees, or in difficult dry shade where little else will grow. Reaching a height of just 10–20cm, it stays neat and low, providing a colourful alternative to ivy or pachysandra.
Barnsdale tip: To keep the carpet dense and to prevent it from becoming straggly, shear the plants back hard with garden shears in early spring. This encourages fresh, brightly coloured new growth and a thicker mat of foliage that weeds will find impossible to penetrate.

As perishable goods, live plants cannot be returned.

Peat-free plant
This plant has been grown in peat-free compost. The compost we use at Barnsdale Gardens is mainly wood-based, mixed with some coir, with an eight to nine months slow-release fertiliser added. We have been using this compost to pot all the plants we grow for over ten years.
