Geoff Hamilton & Barnsdale Gardens

Origins

Geoff Hamilton in the Artisan's Cottage Garden at Barnsdale Gardens

Barnsdale Gardens was created by Geoff Hamilton, presenter of BBC Gardeners' World from 1979 until his death in 1996. Geoff presented Gardeners' World from his home in Rutland where he developed the individual garden designs, experimenting with plants, themes and ideas to inspire the nation and earned the reputation of being the ‘People’s Gardener’. A true pioneer of sustainable, organic gardening, Barnsdale was his great experiment in the early days of peat-free and chemical-free growing. This spirit lives on today at Barnsdale Gardens.

Values

Geoff's sustainable, organic gardening techniques and principals continue here, with the same passion and innovation, in everything we do in the gardens and every plant we grow and nurture on our nursery.

Our skilled staff are trained and well-versed in the eco-friendly, organic principals that form our core values at Barnsdale Gardens.
