A compact yet impactful addition to the sunny border, this robust perennial provides a long season of intense colour on sturdy, self-supporting stems.
The large, fringed flowers resemble shaggy cornflowers and appear in a rich shade of violet-blue that contrasts perfectly with the rosette of leathery, dark green leaves. Unlike many taller late-flowering daisies, it remains neat and tidy, making it ideal for the front of a bed or a patio container.
It blooms tirelessly from mid-summer onwards, drawing in bees and butterflies with its generous supply of nectar. While it thrives in full sun and fertile soil, good drainage is essential to keep the semi-evergreen foliage healthy through the colder months.
Barnsdale tip: Although fully hardy against the cold, this plant dislikes sitting in wet soil during winter. If you garden on heavy clay, dig in plenty of horticultural grit before planting or choose a container to ensure sharp drainage.
June-September flowering. Best in a sunny position and requires well-drained soil, particularly in winter. Height & spread: 45cm x 45cm (18" x 18").
