A compact powerhouse for the front of a bed, this long-blooming perennial produces a tireless succession of cushion-like flower heads over a remarkably neat mound of foliage.

The pure white, pincushion blossoms with minute lilac-purple anthers, are larger than those of traditional varieties and emerge from mid-spring right through to the first autumn frosts, offering exceptional value for money in a small space. Unlike taller scabious that can become floppy, this smaller, neat selection makes an excellent candidate for edging sunny paths, filling rock gardens, or planting in patio containers.

The dense, deep green foliage remains tidy and close to the ground, allowing the flowers to take centre stage on short, sturdy stems. It is a magnet for bees and butterflies, providing a constant source of nectar over many months.

Barnsdale tip: To maintain the relentless production of new flowers, make a habit of snipping off the spent heads every week. Cut the stem right down to the base where it meets the main foliage mound, rather than just pulling off the old petals, as this signals the plant to push up new buds immediately.

June-September flowering. Drought tolerant. Best in a sunny position in most garden soils. Height & spread: 45cm x 50cm (18" x 20").

As perishable goods, live plants cannot be returned.

Peat-free plant

This plant has been grown in peat-free compost. The compost we use at Barnsdale Gardens is mainly wood-based, mixed with some coir, with an eight to nine months slow-release fertiliser added. We have been using this compost to pot all the plants we grow for over ten years.
