A superb, low-maintenance alternative to Box balls, this compact evergreen shrub provides instant architectural structure with a lighter, airier feel.
True to its name, it naturally grows into a neat, tight sphere without the need for constant clipping. The small, leathery leaves are a shimmering mint-green, edged in white, giving the whole plant a silvery appearance that sparkles against its contrasting thin, black stems.
Reaching a manageable height and spread of roughly 80cm, it is an exceptional choice for flanking a doorway in pots, creating a low, bright hedge, or adding formal punctuation to a mixed border. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil but does appreciate shelter from cold, drying winds.
Barnsdale tip: While it maintains a good shape on its own, a light trim with garden shears in mid-spring will keep the foliage extra dense and velvety. If you are gardening in a frost pocket, move potted specimens to the shelter of a house wall or porch during the coldest winter weeks.
May-June flowering. Evergreen. Best in a sunny, sheltered position in a well drained soil. Height & spread: 80cm x 80m (32" x 32").

As perishable goods, live plants cannot be returned.

Peat-free plant
This plant has been grown in peat-free compost. The compost we use at Barnsdale Gardens is mainly wood-based, mixed with some coir, with an eight to nine months slow-release fertiliser added. We have been using this compost to pot all the plants we grow for over ten years.
