A striking architectural perennial, Iris ensata 'Variegata' is as much admired for its foliage as its flowers. It produces elegant, sword-like leaves boldly striped with creamy-white and sage-green, providing a bright vertical accent throughout the season. In mid-summer, tall stems bear magnificent, flattened blooms of rich royal-purple, providing a dramatic colour contrast against the variegated blades.

A favourite for pond edges and damp borders, this hardy perennial thrives in moist, acid-to-neutral soil in full sun. Whether used to soften a water feature or brighten a bog garden, it adds a sophisticated, contemporary feel to any landscape.

July-August flowering. Best in a sunny position in a moisture retentive soil. 90cm x 50cm (35" x 20").

As perishable goods, live plants cannot be returned.

Peat-free plant

This plant has been grown in peat-free compost. The compost we use at Barnsdale Gardens is mainly wood-based, mixed with some coir, with an eight to nine months slow-release fertiliser added. We have been using this compost to pot all the plants we grow for over ten years.
