A romantic and stately giant for the back of the border, this sophisticated perennial offers a colour break from the traditional blues with its warm, dusky tones.
Part of the celebrated New Millennium series, it is bred for stronger stems and improved heat tolerance, though its impressive height of up to 1.8m means it still appreciates shelter from strong winds. The sturdy spikes are densely packed with semi-double flowers in rich shades of mulberry-pink and dusky rose, each centred with a distinctive dark brown or black 'bee'.
It provides dramatic vertical interest and looks spectacular when planted in drifts against a dark hedge or fence. Like all delphiniums, it is a hungry plant that demands fertile, moisture-retentive soil to perform its best.
Barnsdale tip: You can coax a second flush of flowers from this plant in late summer. As soon as the first main spikes have finished, cut the stems right back to the ground and give the plant a liquid feed. This triggers fresh growth that will often bloom again in September.
June-July flowering . Best in a sunny position in moist, well-drained soil. Height & spread: 180cm x 60cm (6' x 2').

As perishable goods, live plants cannot be returned.

Peat-free plant
This plant has been grown in peat-free compost. The compost we use at Barnsdale Gardens is mainly wood-based, mixed with some coir, with an eight to nine months slow-release fertiliser added. We have been using this compost to pot all the plants we grow for over ten years.
