A show-stopping collarette variety that brings a touch of dramatic flair to the late summer border with its bold, contrasting colours.

Distinct from the heavy double blooms of ball dahlias, this elegant selection features a single row of velvety, deep maroon-red outer petals surrounding a neat inner 'collar' of smaller, ruffle-edged petals in crisp white, often flushed with streaks of raspberry pink. The open golden-yellow centre is highly accessible and rich in nectar, making it a firm favourite with bees and late-flying butterflies.

Rising to around 80–90cm on dark, sturdy stems, it fits perfectly into the middle of a mixed border or a large patio container, where its eye-catching blooms can be admired up close. It makes a superb cut flower, with the complex bloom shape adding a sophisticated texture to indoor arrangements from July right through to the first frosts.

Barnsdale tip: Because this variety produces such a heavy volume of flowers, it pays to be ruthless with your deadheading. Don't just nip off the flower head; trace the stem back down to the next pair of leaves and cut it there. This encourages long, strong stems for the next flush rather than short, weak side-shoots.

July-October flowering. Grows best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Height & spread: 80cm x 70cm (32" x 28").

As perishable goods, live plants cannot be returned.

Peat-free plant

This plant has been grown in peat-free compost. The compost we use at Barnsdale Gardens is mainly wood-based, mixed with some coir, with an eight to nine months slow-release fertiliser added. We have been using this compost to pot all the plants we grow for over ten years.
