Offering a refreshing departure from the standard fiery reds, this vigorous variety brings softer, warmer tones of peach and deep orange to the late summer border.
It's distinguished by its unusually large, broad petals and dense flower heads, which are borne on arching stems above wide, pleated foliage. It is an exceptionally long-flowering plant, producing its warm, glowing blooms from midsummer right through to late autumn, long after many other perennials have finished.
It possesses a robust constitution and multiplies well without becoming invasive. Its softer colouring allows it to blend effortlessly with late-flowering grasses and blues, rather than dominating the scheme like the more common 'Lucifer'.
Barnsdale tip: Resist the urge to tidy up this plant in autumn; the old foliage acts as a vital protective blanket for the corms during winter and should only be cut back in spring.
July-October flowering. Best in a sunny position in moist, well-drained soil. Height & spread: 75cm x 45cm (30" x 18").
