Calycanthus × raulstonii 'Hartlage Wine', or Carolina allspice, is a magnificent shrub with cinnamon-scented leaves. It bears lightly scented, burgundy-red flowers with a touch of cream at the centre along the branches, which are very attractive against the backdrop of lustrous green foliage which turns glorious butter-yellow in autumn.
May-September flowering. Deciduous. Prefers a sunny spot in moist, well-drained soil. Height and spread: 3 x 4m (10 x 13ft).
