A sophisticated choice for introducing rich color to the late summer garden, this heritage Japanese anemone delivers an elegant and tireless display just as other border plants begin to fade.
Unlike single-flowered varieties, this classic selection features semi-double blooms with narrow, slightly twisted petals in a deep shade of rosy-pink to purplish-crimson, all centered around a prominent ring of bright golden-yellow stamens.
Rising on wiry, exceptionally sturdy stems, it forms a handsome mound of deeply divided vine-like leaves that provides excellent ground cover earlier in the season. Flowering profusely from August until the first hard frosts, it thrives in partial shade and moist, well-drained soil, making it ideal for brightening up woodland edges, cottage garden borders, or north-facing beds.
Barnsdale tip: Japanese anemones can be slow to settle, but once established they spread via underground runners and resent being moved. Choose your spot carefully and avoid disturbing the roots; if they wander too far into neighboring plants, simply slice through the new shoots with a sharp spade in spring.
August-October flowering. Will grow in sun or semi-shade. Height & spread: 60cm-90cm x 45cm (24"-36" x 18").
