A dramatic, architectural choice for late-season interest, Actaea simplex 'Atropurpurea Group' (Bugbane) is prized for its striking foliage and vertical elegance. It features deeply divided, bronze-purple leaves that create a bold contrast in shaded borders. From late summer into autumn, tall, slender wands of bottle-brush flowers emerge, opening from purple-tinted buds to reveal fragrant, creamy-white blooms.
This RHS Award of Garden Merit winner is an excellent companion for ferns and hostas, adding height and sophistication to cottage gardens, wildlife gardens, informal borders and woodland schemes.
August-October flowering. Grows best in semi-shade in cool, moist soils. Height & spread: 160cm x 60cm (63" x 24").
