A magnificent choice for injecting the fiery, shifting tones of a late summer sunset into a sunny border, this robust yarrow is celebrated for its exceptional colour transition and grey-green foliage.

The large, flat flower heads open in a rich shade of terracotta-orange, gradually mellowing to warm brick-red and soft creamy-yellow as they mature, creating a beautiful multi-toned effect across the plant. The sturdy stems are clothed in finely divided, fern-like leaves that release a pleasant herbal scent when crushed.

It begins its generous display in mid-summer and continues well into autumn, providing a perfect landing platform for bees, hoverflies, and butterflies. It is supremely adapted to hot, dry conditions, making it an ideal candidate for gravel gardens, coastal sites, or any free-draining border where other perennials might flag in the summer heat.

Barnsdale tip: To keep the plant looking fresh and to encourage a second flush of those wonderful terracotta heads, cut the faded flower stems right back to the lower foliage as soon as they start to turn brown. This also prevents the plant from expending energy on seed production.

As perishable goods, live plants cannot be returned.

Peat-free plant

This plant has been grown in peat-free compost. The compost we use at Barnsdale Gardens is mainly wood-based, mixed with some coir, with an eight to nine months slow-release fertiliser added. We have been using this compost to pot all the plants we grow for over ten years.
