Stiga SBH900AE Battery Harness
I’ve been using this battery harness with a Stiga hedge trimmer and grass trimmer, interchangeably. It's also compatible with other Stiga tools in the 900, 700 and 500 series (500 and 700 series need a dummy battery accessory).
The all-weather and fully waterproof harness is very comfortable to wear and has adjustable straps so can be used by different operators if needed, the idea being that the weight of the batteries is better carried on the back and shoulders rather than on the tool itself.
This holds two batteries, one either side and there’s a switch to alternate from one battery to the other when needed- this can be done without the need to take it off, which is very user-friendly.
I’ve been using the largest Stiga batteries; the E 475, each with a 7.5 Ah capacity, weighing in at 2.12kg each but once they’re in the harness they don’t feel overly heavy and with the well-padded shoulder and back straps it’s comfortable. I also have the Stiga EC 415DU dual battery charger which takes 330 mins to fully charge either one or both batteries simultaneously. Different amperage Stiga E-Power batteries will also work in this harness and charger and a single battery can be used on its own if only one is available.
The harness has a connecting cable which adapts for both left and right-handed users so it has been thoughtfully designed.
Conclusion: The harness and batteries are a necessity to be used in combination with the 900 series tools and for me it’s a winning combination. Yes, there’s more weight with the battery harness than a petrol or cabled electric equivalent and initially a bigger outlay for the batteries but there’s less noise, no exhaust fumes, no petrol to buy and a lighter tool in the hands. I would thoroughly recommend this setup to anybody interested in buying a battery tool system.
